Serum DHEA

Screening for adrenal androgenic insufficiency can be accomplished by a simple, inexpensive blood test. There are many published studies showing unconjucated or "free" DHEA level in serum correlates well with clinical symptoms. It is a much more sensitive indicator than DHEA Sulfate because of its relative concentration in circulating blood. Patients considered for supplementation should have a baseline test and then monitored periodically for dose adjustment.
